Karnataka HC sets uniform code for school attire, cites Quran, says wearing of hijab not mandatory

The Quran does not mandate Muslim women to wear the hijab or headgear, the Karnataka high court held on Tuesday as it delivered its verdict dismissing a string of petitions challenging a ban of the religious clothing in classrooms of colleges in the state. Also, it said the hijab came into being as a socio-cultural need of another time and place.
